HIGH-SPEED DATA TRANSFER

Global Electronics B.V. was already a supplier of various EFFECT Photonics products, which are characterized by "low-volume high-mix". EFFECT Photonics developed a new chip that is very innovative in realizing high-speed data transfer and they created a piece of high-tech hardware around the chip. During this process, they encountered a number of practical problems. These include putting a large number of components on a small surface, industrialization (the preparation for mass production) of some 100k pieces per year and the organization of the supply chain.

A DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) system is the technology of choice for many network applications today. By using many different wavelengths of light to route data, these systems are more efficient, flexible and cost effective to build, own and operate compared to single channel point-to-point connections.

Using EFFECT Photonics' high-density electrical interconnect and packaging technology, the optical System-on-Chip is assembled for volume production at low cost.

THE FUTURE OF PHOTONICS

The most important advantage of DWDM systems is full monolithic integration of all photonic components in a single chip. They can be produced in large quantities with a high yield at a low cost.

With this option, EFFECT Photonics meets the need for low-cost DWDM solutions driven by the increasing demand for high-bandwidth connections between data centers and back from mobile cell towers.

EFFECT Photonics develops and supplies highly integrated optical products based on InP (Indium Phosphide), the material of choice for creating efficient laser light sources, waveguides, modulators and photodiodes used in optical communication systems worldwide.
